PHILLIPS, HOYT - age 87, of 582 Monroe Street, Madisonville, passed away 1:15 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2011 at home. He was a proud veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Navy. He was born on the fourth of July and died on Memorial Day. He spent most of his career in law enforcement as a Madisonville City policeman, a Monroe County deputy sheriff and constable. Member of Big Creek Baptist Church. Survivors: wife of 58 years, Marcene Mullins Phillips; children and spouses, Bobbie Pennington, Dan and Patricia Phillips, Matt and Melanie Phillips, all of Madisonville; grandchildren, Andy and Jeanne Pennington, Athens, Marcy Pennington, Caroline Pennington, of Maryville, Will, Anna and Josh Phillips, all of Madisonville; great-grandchildren, Dane, Dax and Demi Pennington, of Athens; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Katherine Phillips, of Sweetwater, Doyle and Nancy Hunt, Sherald Hunt, of Madisonville; loving sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jerrye and Jim Moses, of Athens. Preceded in death by granddaughter, Lori Caroline Pennington, parents, Purd Phillips and Dovie Phillips Hunt, step-father, Burt Hunt, brothers, Claude Phillips, Arnold Phillips, Wayne Phillips, Kenneth Hunt and John B. Hunt. Special thanks to Home Health Care of East Tennessee and Hospice. Funeral 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Dr. Lon Shoopman officiating. Interment 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Sunset Cemetery with military honors by V.F.W. Post 5156 and D.A.V. Chapter 93.
